Why we built this
Most people find a financial adviser the same way — word of mouth. A friend mentions their mortgage broker. A colleague refers their insurance adviser. It works reasonably well if you happen to know the right people.
But a lot of people don’t. And even a genuine referral can’t tell you much — the quality of financial advice often doesn’t become clear until years later, when a claim is paid out, a loan is refinanced, or retirement finally starts. By then, the referral is long forgotten.
New Zealand has around 9,000 licensed financial advisers. Most of them are doing excellent work. Most of them don’t have a big marketing budget. Their reputation lives in their clients’ heads — and doesn’t travel far enough.
We built AdviceFinder to fix that. A place where good advisers are easy to find, their licences are confirmed, and their reputation is built on real client reviews — not who spends the most on advertising.
